14th Charity Ball of the Sándor Reményik Christian Hungarian School

2024.04.06

Over a hundred people gathered to celebrate the Hungarian school in the San Fernando Valley on Saturday evening. The event marked the 14th charity ball of the Sándor Reményik Christian Hungarian School, highlighted by spectacular dances, superb music, and heartfelt speeches. Attendees of all ages joined the festivities to celebrate, support, and enjoy the school's ball, which was inaugurated by Zsolt Jakabffy, the pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church responsible for the institution. Consul General Tamás Széles followed, emphasizing the importance of sustaining the school, education, the Hungarian language, and culture—all of which are well-supported here by dedicated children, parents, teachers, and a strong community, even 10,000 kilometers from their homeland. The Consul General shared his hope that the Hungarian language, along with its young learners and educators, would continue to thrive here for decades to come. Later in the evening, both alumni and current students showcased two traditional dances, the "palotás" and a waltz, both choreographed by the visiting Hungarian scholars, István Vámosi and Ágnes Kovács Vámosi. Following a delightful dinner, Józsi Baky's familiar tunes kept the crowd of over a hundred guests dancing well into the night.
